Inspired by the diversity of fruit from Feil Orchards in Wenatchee, this free biennial event has become a community favorite over the years.
Feil Orchards has been growing fruit for over 100 years along the Columbia River, where Jack Feil, at 90, and his crew continue to explore the world of apples, new and old. Most varieties we bring in for the Affair are heirloom selections that you won't find in your local grocery store. Occasionally, we are able to get fruit from several other Eastern Washington farms, but there just aren't that many farmers growing the old-time apple varieties like Spitzenburg, Arkansas Black or the flavor powerhouse Wickson Crab.
We invite the community to bring an apple dish (along with the recipe) to share at the community apple potluck table, where we provide hot cider, tea, coffee and Olympic Mountain vanilla ice cream to go with pies baked by Ariel Dobson and Michael Manos.
Traditionally scheduled for the 3rd Sunday in October, the event starts at noon and goes until 4pm in a flurry of activity that leaves the sample plates mostly empty by around 3:30, so come early for the tasting and stay for some apple treats and rub elbows with your neighbors.
It's good, old-fashioned fun for the whole family!
